Posting #1: Jean Paul Gaultier
Designing skirts for men and conical costumes for the famous singer Madonna, Jean Paul Gaultier has made a name for himself in the fashion industry by challenging the norm and creating new styles. Gaultier was hired by Pierre Cardin in 1970 and although he had no formal training he was chosen because of the innovative sketches he sent by mail. Six short years later, Gaultier launched his first womenswear collection in Paris that was denoted as being "frenchier than french". The designer not only designs womenswear but as well, he has launched a menswear collection along with a fragrance line, accessory line and in 1997 he contributed a couture collection to fashion. Gaultier has been credited with "pioneering inner-wear as outerwear, promoting ethnic and gender-bending dress, and popularizing the use of stretch fabrics in his signature skintight bodysuits"(style.com).
